Re: Nuisance Watercrafts
I've heard your concerns surrounding the issues of nuisance watercrafts such as jet skis along our waterfront – and I share them with you too. The behaviour of some operators has been absolutely unacceptable.
At the April City Council meeting, I moved a motion requesting that the City work with the Toronto Police Marine Unit and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to enhance safety along our waterfront, create an action plan to address nuisance watercrafts, and to identify ways to protect our environmentally sensitive areas.
I'm happy to share that substantial progress has already been made since my motion was put forward.
The Marine Unit has implemented an enforcement initiative called project SOS (Summer of Safety), which involves bringing in officers to enhance safety enforcement and conduct inspections of pleasure crafts using the Toronto area waters.
Community engagement is now underway with vendors along the waterfront to help educate all renters on the regulations and responsibilities on the waterway.
The City has also posted signage at all the public boat ramps to create further awareness, and auxiliary officers will be present throughout the summer to further assist with this.
Please note: If you have concerns about nuisance watercrafts, the Marine Unit has advised residents to contact their direct line at 416-808-5800. To learn more about the Marine Unit, please visit here.
