PXO Approval - Chartwell Road & Badger Drive
I am pleased to announce that Etobicoke York Community Council has supported our request to install a new pedestrian crosswalk at Chartwell Road and Badger Drive.
On behalf of residents in the area, I requested that Transportation Services review the need for pedestrian crossing protection at this location, in order to enhance safety for children crossing to and from the school. The criteria were not met for a level 1 PXO at this location, but they were met for a level 2 PXO. You can read the staff report here.
A few years ago, the Province approved the use of three new variations of PXO’s. There has been an ongoing pilot in the City on the use of these level 2 PXO’s, two of which are in Etobicoke-Lakeshore. These new PXO’s have proven to be effective, and Transportation Services are supportive of the installation here.
A Level 2 PXO may look slightly different from what you have seen in the past, however it will still provide a safe way for pedestrians to cross the street. Signage and pavement marking will make it clear to drivers that they are travelling through a PXO, and drivers will be alerted to pedestrian activity by flashing lights activated by pedestrians.
Installation of the PXO is being coordinated with road reconstruction that is scheduled for later this year. Be sure to sign up for my eNews at www.markgrimes.ca for updates. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at 416-397-9273 or firstname.lastname@example.org
