Hiring More By-Law Officers
During the City Council 2022 Budget meeting, I moved a motion asking our Municipal Licensing & Standards division to prioritize hiring more By-law enforcement staff. I'm pleased to say that City Council unanimously supported my motion. We've been experiencing a greater need for by-law officers in our community with the frequent use of illegal fireworks, destructive bonfires, dog-owners who don't keep their pets on leashes or pick up after them, littering, a general disregard for City bylaws, and abuse of our public spaces and parks. We've worked together to build beautiful public spaces in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, and unfortunately there are some people who choose not to respect our community.
Staff noted that there are over 40 vacant By-law positions. We need to prioritize getting these positions filled so that we can get enforcement at locations where we need them, when we need them.
