"Greetings,

Humber College has been selected to be a community host for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay on July 6th. This is a great opportunity for our community and we hope that the local BIAs will join us as a community partner.

The Pan Am Flame will be lit in May, in a traditional ceremony in Mexico, before traveling to Canada. The torch relay is a 41-day journey from May 30th to July 10th, 2015. The torch will be passing through 130 communities until it makes its final stop on July 10 at the opening ceremony of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.

The community celebration for South Etobicoke will be July 6th at Colonel Samuel Smith Park, starting at 5pm and finishing at 8pm. At the beginning of the event there will be activities and food trucks, along with activation booths and entertainment provided by a Humber band leading up to the arrival of the torch. Once the torch arrives there will be a ceremony led by the Pan Am Games for about an hour, with entertainment provided by a sponsor.

Humber College is the coordinating body for the community section of the celebration and we are seeking community groups, businesses, and institutions to run small booths or activations, such as – face painting, etc. These booths/activations could be anything from having attendees kick a soccer ball into a net, an interactive craft, to small games. Humber will be securing the necessary permits for the park, providing logistical coordination, marketing of the event, security, entertainment and parking. It is important people have places to park and we are looking for additional parking spaces for the public.

Again, this is a great opportunity for the community and we hope you will join us in celebrating this memorable event. Please e-mail kristin.mccurdy@humber.ca if you or your community group is interested in participating."

Sincerely,

Kristin McCurdy
