Draft Plan for Rotary Peace Park Playground

A draft plan for improvements to Rotary Peace Park Playground is complete!

 

The plan follows a community charette held at the New Toronto Library in February this year and subsequent consultation and discussion with community stakeholders. Thanks to the many people who provided input - you have helped to clarify our priorities and have contributed to a stronger design for the play area.

 

Improvements and changes discussed at the charette that are not shown on the plan have been noted by Parks, Forestry and Recreation and will be pursued in future improvement phases as funding becomes available.

Update on the 501 streetcar

The TTC commission has approved the request to re-consider the route change of the current 501 Streetcar to a 507 streetcar (Long Branch to Dundas Station) or implement a Lakeshore streetcar (service just the lakeshore area) with the 2011 operating budget.

Ice Skating Trail Update

I'm happy to announce that the Colonel Samuel Smith Park Outdoor Skating Trail is approximately 55 % completed.

As you know we were not able to complete this project last year, however we are on track for spring 2010 completion.

All the refrigeration works in the building have been completed and the external works are underway again. The warming pipes are in place and over the next coming weeks most of the preparation works such as sand, fine mix, insulation, refrigeration piping and the reinforcements for the main concrete slab will be done.
