Councillor Mark Grimes
Ward 6, Etobicoke - Lakeshore
I was first elected City Councillor for Ward 6 on November 10, 2003 on a platform that focused on revitalization. My goal was to make South Etobicoke a great place to live for current and future residents, and that remains my focus to this day. While there is always more to be done, I am proud of the countless improvements we have achieved thus far. We have made significant progress and I am confident that together we will continue accomplish even greater things going forward.
I am proudly rooted in the Etobicoke-Lakeshore. My commitment to family and community is the result of a life nurtured in the heart of the Lake Shore. My three brothers and I were raised here. Now alongside my wife Anne, I am raising five children of my own in South Etobicoke! I truly understand the importance of family and the need for first-rate community services, organizations, parks and recreational facilities for all to enjoy.
Before entering politics, I was the president and owner of a thriving logistics business in South Etobicoke with my brothers. Through this experience, I became acutely aware of the pressing economic issues facing local businesses. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, I worked at the Toronto Stock Exchange as a trader and market maker at a major financial firm for 13 years.
So far, my proudest professional accomplishments include helping revitalize the ward by building Mimico Square, Amos Waites Park, Mimico Waterfront Park, Eighth Street Skate Park, and making improvements to Marie Curtis Park. In partnership with Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, I led the charge on City Council to finance and build the Mastercard Centre for Hockey Excellence, a brand new four pad hockey arena at the corner of Kipling Ave and New Toronto St. I was also proud to represent our community as as the City Council Champion for the 2015 Pan and Parapan Am Games, which saw over 7000 athletes from 31 countries compete in 36 Pan Am sports and 15 Parapan Am sports.
Currently, I am working to improve transportation infrastructure in South Etobicoke with increased public transit; a Transportation Master Plan for the Humber Bay Shores area; a cycle track and increased cycling infrastructure along Lake Shore and the Waterfront Trail and a major revitalization of Humber Bay Shores Park.
As a life-long resident, parent and businessperson in South Etobicoke, I have a strong understanding of the issues and needs of the community first-hand. I know the Lake Shore well and will continue working tirelessly as your City Councillor to protect our community’s best interests.
