Ride the TTC 145 Downtown/Humber Bay Express Bus

On January 11th I hosted a Community Meeting to discuss the 145 Downtown/Humber Bay Express Bus. The trial period for this bus has expired, and current ridership levels do not warrant its continuation.

Approximately 100 people showed up to listen to the TTC's findings, learn about the history of the service from the Humber Bay Shores Condo Association, and show their support for the bus.

Many people expressed interest in joining a Working Group to focus our efforts. If you would like to take part, please contact my office at councillor_grimes@toronto.ca or 416-397-9273.

Etobicoke's top cops lay out plans for 2012

via Inside Toronto

Community and youth engagement, crime prevention focus for the new year

"Engaging the community is also going to be a key method for officers down in 22 Division in dealing with some of the drug and prostitution activities down along the lakeshore - with the help of, in particular, members of the local Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) and the 22 Division Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

"The BIA and CPLC members are reporting back a lot of concern about the drug activity and some of the prostitution activity that's down there," Ramer said. "So looking forward to 2012, we have some significant initiatives planned for that area and we're having that consultation with community members down there as we proceed going forward. It's not secret stuff - everybody knows it's a problem down there, so we're going to try to fix the problem...and that's really in response to information coming to us from our CPLCs."

The Interview: Councillor Mark Grimes talks up burgeoning Humber Bay

via UrbanToronto.ca. For the full story please click here

UrbanToronto took the opportunity to talk with local city councillor Mark Grimes at a recent topping off event for Star Tower at Empire Communities' Beyond The Sea complex in Etobicoke's burgeoning Humber Bay Shores area.

We're looking from the 40th floor of Star Tower down at the Mimico Creek. What are the plans for the greenspace below?  What can we expect in the next few years for Humber Bay Shores regarding the parkland here?

As you know we have a tremendous amount of energy being socked into one area here at Humber Bay Shores. It's always been the plan since we expropriated the water's edge of the hotel strip, that density would be transferred back to the landowners as a kind of payback. As you see, we're moving west towards the village of Mimico and we have an unbelieveable amount of density trying to come in, so what's very important is that we do keep the greenspace.

For years the Mimico Creek in this area has kind of been neglected, but there's a great group that oversees it now, the Etobicoke-Mimico Watersheds Coalition, plus we're working directly with Toronto Region Conservation Authority on how we can make park connections up into Ward 5, Peter Milczyn's ward. Through these developments on the east side of the creek as we go up Park Lawn, we're asking all these developers to contribute to a new trail system. We're trying to get a trail along both sides of the creek - with a bridge to connect them south of the rails, that's a very important part - along Mimico Creek to connect north of the Gardiner Expressway to Ward 5. We've used some Section 37 money to get the design worked on, which is well on the way.
