A Message from Campbell Canada Re: Local Soot Issue
Wednesday, February 23, 2011
Due to a shortage of gas supply to Mimico area businesses and residents on Tuesday, February 22nd, Enbridge Gas asked Campbell Canada to limit the use of gas to heat our facility.
To be able to continue to heat our facility, we secured approval from the Ministry of the Environment to use furnace oil for our boiler (the same oil used in many local homes).
Shortly after starting one of our boilers we became aware that some soot was being emitted from our exhaust system, resulting in a deposit of soot in close vicinity to the Campbell site. It is important to note the Engineers at Campbell quickly isolated the issue, and the soot is non-hazardous.
As a responsible community member for the past 80 years, and a recent recipient of a Green Toronto Award for our commitment to the environment, we pride ourselves on being a respectful neighbour. We are actively working with local officials and a professional clean-up crew to address the problem. We deeply regret this issue, noting an incident of this nature is extremely rare.
